The REFUGE pavilion will be officially opened on Saturday, August 29. This pavilion will function as an open laboratory for contemporary art, focusing on sustainability, experimentation and collaboration with local partners.
For this pavilion, Be-Part has invited artist Ives Maes who is collaborating with designer Samyra Moumouh. The design for the REFUGE pavilion is based on the fascinating principle of the camera obscura: a darkened space in which the outside world becomes visible through a small hole as an inverted; true-to-life projection. This optical phenomenon becomes the heart of the pavilion, transforming the structure into a poetic space for observation, contemplation and wonder. The circular architecture creates an open and dynamic layout that can adapt to different uses and audiences.
Thematically, the pavilion explores various definitions of the concept of 'refuge': refugee shelter, paradise escape, bunker, ecological sanctuary, observatory. The pavilion is conceived not merely as an object, but as an active, community-oriented space that comes to life through collaboration with local associations and partners. The pavilion functions as a versatile meeting space and is ideal for performances, (film) screenings, workshops and other public activities.
Ives Maes has developed a public program that takes place on weekends. More information will follow soon.
