For the last 15 years, German artist Hermann Maier Neustadt has been working on a body of work in which the personal experience of the visitor/user is important. He looks for social, political, cultural and symbolic aspects of buildings and sites. Neustadt scrutinises place and function, returns to time and compares the original plans with the final elaboration. He analyses architecture from a sculptural reflex and probes the impact of builder, architect, engineer and owner on the building plan.
In the exhibition Auf die Bühne, Hermann Maier Neustadt uncovers hidden aspects of architecture. He presents the building as a personal trace, mirror and arena. The exhibition mainly combines new works (installations, photographs and a video) with some existing sculptures.
Besides the exhibition at Be-Part, a work by Neustadt will also be placed in Waregem's Baron Casier park: the five-metre-high sculpture Canscope IV (2001), in steel and yellow polyester. Visitors are invited to take a seat in the sculpture and reflect on it.
