Imge Özbilge 'MAH'

Imge Özbilge is a visual artist and filmmaker whose practice operates at the intersection of painting, video installation, animation, and film. Through her work, she explores mythology, collective memory, rituals, and storytelling rooted in Anatolian and Mesopotamian cultures. Drawing on her intercultural background, she develops a distinctive visual language that offers alternative perspectives and challenges Eurocentric narratives.

During Mabatobato, the video installation MAH will be on view. Mabatobato is a delightful blend of world music, dance, a global children's village filled with workshops, and a vibrant cultural and food market with a southern flair. For MAH, Imge Özbilge drew inspiration from three Anatolian moon rituals, translating them into animated video installations. The works Mahperi, Mahpeyker, and Mahidevran refer to female figures associated with the moon in the Ottoman-Persian tradition. Through stories of shelter, protection, and love, the artist explores the central role the moon has played in the everyday life, folklore, and mythology of Anatolia. Bringing together ancient tales, rituals, and symbols, the installations create a poetic universe in which nature, dreams, and spirituality are deeply intertwined.
