From the 26th of August to the 30th of September, Be-Part, Platform for contemporary art presents an architectural pavilion in Park Baron Casier. The pavilion was designed by artist Nico Dockx and Voet Architectuur and realised by Studio Zuidervaart. The Pirate Pavilion functions as an open laboratory programme, which fits perfectly with Be-Part's mission. As an international laboratory for the creation and presentation of contemporary art, it allocates an important place and attention to the interfaces and interactions with other disciplines, in order to present contemporary art in all its diversity and introduce the public to recent developments and debates in the art world.

For the pavilion, Dockx and Voet were inspired by a spider's web structure: the structure will move with people and nature like a living organism. The Pirate Pavilion has a length of 10.4 metres, a width of 13 metres and reaches a height of 6 metres. On this tubular construction, 18 canvases by Claessens Canvas (producer of high-quality painting canvas) will be painted by various guests. Park Baron Casier will be hijacked by artists who will appropriate the public domain for a short period of time. That beautiful park full of striking trees will be the perfect backdrop for the Pirate Pavilion.

The concepts of sustainability and democracy are woven into both the construction and the programme of the Pirate Pavilion. The pavilion is a meeting place where artists and public engage in dialogue: a creative sanctuary for discussion, panel discussions, artistic encounters, ...
