Joëlle Dubois (1990, Ghent) is known for her powerful and colorful paintings that focus on themes such as gender, femininity, sexuality, and diversity. In her more recent work, she explores deeply personal subjects like grief and loss of identity, resulting in more monochromatic compositions that vividly capture emotions. During the exhibition at Be-Part Kortrijk, you will discover a unique mix of older and new works, including a brand-new video piece.

After an interactive guided tour, students dive into the drawing and painting studio, inspired by the objects and symbols found in Joëlle Dubois’s work. They explore which objects hold special meaning for them personally and are connected to happy or sad memories. Just as Joëlle Dubois sometimes burns an egg or a key in her work, students learn how to transform objects to give them even deeper meaning. They reflect on questions like: What color matches a happy, sad, or melancholic mood? How do I feel inside? What do you want to show the world, just like Joëlle Dubois? And how do you deal with your own memories?

We experiment with different ways of drawing and applying color through a series of engaging assignments inspired by Joëlle Dubois. In a personal creation, you tell your own story using objects and symbols.
