Each piece serves as a possible variation for a book cover, with Dufait essentially turning the contents of the book inside out: instead of being in the book, they appear on the outside – on the front cover, back cover, spine, and edges.
They balance between paintings and collages, in which he reuses and transforms existing drawings into intriguing objects. Elements from his studio are reworked and manipulated, resulting in a layered, tactile whole. Notable is the new use of text fragments, which he describes as loose thoughts – snippets that add an extra dimension to the work.
Proceeds from the sale of these works will go toward the production of a new publication about Rein Dufait’s work. The publication is designed by Studio Luc Derycke, published by Mer. Borgerhoff & Lamberigts, and will be released on 20 September to coincide with the exhibition ginder de dingen, de dagen en de wolken at Be-Part, Waregem.
A unique series of 40 new works by Rein Dufait, made from cardboard with a collage on both sides.
